The effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on rumination, body image and fear of negative evaluation in applicants for cosmetic surgery

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on rumination, physical image and fear of negative evaluation in applicants for cosmetic surgery

Method: The research method was semiexperimental with control group. The statistical population was all applicants for cosmetic surgery in Amol. To determine the sample size, 145 people were selected by Available sampling for screening and responded to Ralph-Nullen-Huxima and Morvar (1991), Littleton's fears of body image (2005) and fear of evaluation Negative Lori (1983) questionnaires. among them, 30 subjects who had high score in questionnaires were selected and replaced in the same way in two groups (15 people each). The experimental group received a 90-minute admission and commitment treatment for 10 sessions (weekly one session). To analyze the data, multivariate covariance analysis was used.

Results: Findings showed that there was a significant difference between the mean post-test scores of the experimental group and the post-test control group (P <0.001).

Conclusion: acceptance and commitment therapy can reduction rumination, body image and fear of negative evaluation of applicants for cosmetic surgery .
