Abstract

Cities population increase but the urban transportation infrastructures haven’t been developed yet in proportion to this increase. This matter has caused intensive crowd in streets that traffic lights can be proposed as an efficient solution in this field. This article is about one intersection (Ghaffari-Nasero intersection) of Birjand city. After collecting the related variables to traffic such as the studied intersection features, rush hour, time between two green lights, red light end, saturation flow traffic, traffic congestion, waste time, surveying, and calculations on them, it was concluded that 3 phases are designed for morning and 2 phases must remain in noon and at night to reduce traffic volume and prevent time waste.

Keywords: traffic flow, rush hour, saturation flow traffic, traffic congestion, waste time
