Effect of training triage on the performance of emergency department staff in the field of patient triage in Iran

Abstract

Tria training is essential for triage personnel, due to the emergence of triage system in Iran. In the present study, the effect of training on knowledge and practice of emergency staff of Fatemi Hospital of Ardebil in Iran was carried out.

The level of knowledge, attitude and practice of staff in the field of triage before and 6 weeks after the training was conducted on triage training. Training was conducted during two sessions of a 3-hour workshop. Data collection included demographic data, knowledge assessment, attitude and practice of the staff through the questionnaire. Demographic characteristics included age, gender, marital status, work record, degree, type of employment, shift and average number of shifts per week.

The level of knowledge, attitude, and performance of the staff 6 weeks after the workshop was 10.3 ± 2.62 to 30.25 ± 2.61, 95.9 ± 14.97 to 95.3 ± 14.58, 104, and from 4.4 ± 7.3 to 12.94 ± 4.0, there was a significant increase (0.00001P <). There was a significant relationship between the increase in awareness, attitude and performance of emergency staff in the 6 weeks after the workshop with none of the factors including gender, age, marital status, the last degree, the time passed since the last degree, employment status , The status of work shift, the work experience of individuals, and participation in the previous similar research (P> 0.05(

Education has a significant impact on the level of knowledge, attitude, and performance of emergency staff in the field of triage. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the training courses for the employees of this department to achieve the correct and lasting skill.
