Priming and Its Effects on Seeds of Crops

Abstract
One problem that the developing countries are facing with is soil heterogeneity and improper soil condition which cause problems such as reducing germination percentage and non-uniform growing of product, uneven growth of germinated plants, and their non-equal competition with each other in using resources such as light, nutrients, and water. This matter makes difference in plants biomass and finally one species plants performance. Seeds priming can be helpful to improve this problem. Seed priming is a technic by which seeds are controlled in their main beds based on humidity, ventilation, and temperature, and these treatments on seeds before planting provide them an opportunity for germination based on environment ecological conditions biochemically and physiologically which improves germination, initial establishment of plants, utilization of environmental inputs, early maturity, and the quantitative, and qualitative increase of the product. This technic provides influence on germination steps, obtaining higher germination percentage and speed particularly uniform and steady germination in gardens that quick seedling establishment can make more resistance of seedling against environmental stresses such as drought and salinity.
